METHODS AND TECHNIQUES OF SOCIAL RESEARCH I

This is an introductory course in the application of methods and techniques of social science. The course focuses on a multidisciplinary analysis of basic statistical methods which relate to the general principles of measurement and analysis of social phenomena, and is structured in three parts. The first part discusses the different types and stages of social research, as well as measurement issues, hypothesis setting and sampling procedures. The second part introduces students to the quantitative methods of statistics, with special interest on the descriptive statistics. Finally, the third parthighlights and discusses the importance of statistical software packages, like SPSS, STATA, Excel etc.
