«Countering Human Trafficking in the Digital Era: The use and abuse of technology»

Commencement date: January 16, 2024

Abstract

The proposed research intends to explore the challenges that the emerging digital developments poise for the fight against trafficking in human beings at global and European levels, focusing primarily on the jurisdictions of Greece, the UK, and the Netherlands. Through this analysis, the study will trace tailored theoretical perspectives, specifically designed to account for the nuances of these digital changes. Subsequently, it will assess how these theoretical perspectives can serve as a source of inspiration for the international, European, and national regulators while discussing next-generation social and normative tools of intervention, strengthening the legal and policy responses to the challenges of digital human trafficking.
