Department of Political Science and Public Administration

GENDER, SOCIETY AND POLITICS

This is an introductory course on gender, gender theory and the sociology of gender, in order to familiarize students with gender as a standpoint in social science and research. It centers on the history of the conceptualization of gender, its  relation to sex and the multiplicity of its expressions. Demonstrating gender as a social construction that divides subjects in a hierarchical way, we will investigate the problems for democracy, as well as for the individual self-realization, created by the existing gender dichotomy.
