ADMINISTRATIVE DECENTRALIZATION AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT

This is a course in local Politics and Institutions. The first part of the course covers the historical evolution and the legal framework for local government and regional administration in Greece and other European countries, often following a comparative view. It then turns to the role and function of local government for the political system, for public administration and local society. Special emphasis is given to aspects of local political leadership, political legitimacy (input, throughput and output legitimacy) and to local government reforms.
